Having finally done my page and section layouts, I am keen not to mess them up.

What directories do I need to backup to retain this config?

Hello,

You can backup the folder where the layouts are saved in the configuration or the site that uses them.

If you backup the files directly from configuration you will need to copy them back in the configuration to use them.

If you backup the html pages that use the layouts you just have to edit the layouts and save them again.
