Hi - I have a few situations with a single menu that I need help with to save this website: http://www.handyman-central.net/2/

First, if you view the site with Internet Explorer 6 your will see that the swf pushes the text in the next div over to the right. This doesn't happen in FF or IE7.

Second, when I view the site in FF I notice (as the text on the page itself demonstrates) the swf "shields" any links in the text from being clicked - even though it's set to be wMode transparent it's still blocks any hyperlinks in the text next to it.

Please help me with these issues. I must be making a common mistake because I think this layout uses Vertical menus in a common way. If I can't use VMenus in a layout like this I'm in big trouble.

Thanks.

Hello josh,

I have checked the link and I noticed that you are using the Flash Menu component in an HTML page.

First of all I want to tell that the problems that you encounter are not caused by the menu, because it is a SWF made in FLASH and embedded in your layout, by you, as any other SWF file. The problems that you encounter will happened with any other SWF file that has the same dimensions, and are caused by your page layout ...especially in IE6 which is the most BUGY browser of all.

Because the problems are not caused by the menu I can't offer you full support but I can offer you some advices:

- be careful with dimensions in IE6 especially with the padding and margin attributes because the padding is interpreted as a margin.
- in IE6 try to use relative positioning
- the SWF "shields" the text and the text links because it is a SWF that has the designed dimensions so even if it is transparent, and you can see trough it, it will still be there. Somehow I noticed that IE7 cuts through the transparency but it is the only browser in the world that does it.

The Flash menus have been created to work in FLASH, or to be used in a banner. If you want to use a menu in a HTML page I suggest you to try the Dreamweaver Menu Extensions!

Creative DW Drop Down Menus - dreamweaver horizontal menu
Creative DW Tabbed Menus - dreamweaver tab menu
Creative DW Vertical Menus - dreamweaver vertical menu

These have the following features:
- The menus are SEO Friendly
- Easy to use
- Can be edited directly from Dreamweaver
- Integrated preview mode
- Can be placed anywhere
- They can float over the HTML content ( this solves your second problem)
- You have the same menu styles and styling options as in the Flash Menu Components
- And many more

Kind Regards,
