Hello,
When I try and use one of my custom fonts in the menu, it previews just fine and the exported SWF renders correctly. However, when I upload to my server and check from another machine that does not have this font installed, it displays with what looks like Times New Roman which is UGLY!
I know that for HTML you need to choose common fonts that are readily available on most user's machines but I thought that for Flash, you could use whatever font you wanted and it would be part of the Flash movie and display accordingly.
Is this not the case? And if not, what fonts am I restricted to? Is it the same scenaro as for HTML fonts?
Thanks for the help.
Dave

Hi Dave,
Font embedding is currently not supported. We are working on the feature and it will be available soon.
I will let you know when it's ready.
Best regards,

Horea:
This is pretty upsetting about not being able to embed fonts. I am on the mac and used Ariel in the menu and I am finding that it is substituting to Times on Windows with IE7. If I can't even use ariel both of these components are useless and not only did I waste my money, but I've wasted a lot of time. I'm on a project and now I have to start over, miss and deadline. Do you have a solution for this.

Horea -
I just purchased Flash Vertical menus. Has font embedding been included in it?

Hello Josh,
The embedding function is implemented in all the Flash menus and can be found in the text tab. But pay attention, the embedding function NOT AVAILABLE IN PREVIEW MODE and you have to add the font in your library and export it for ActionScript in order to use this option.

Monica Chitu.

Monica - I imported the font and made it available on the first frame - exported for AS. The font still does not appear. Any suggestions?

Monica -
BTW - You can view the menu with embedded fonts NOT showing at:
http://www.newpixelcity.com/LVA/3
...and I have some screen captures of how the menu should look if the correct font showed here:

Thanks for looking in on this and hopefully providing some advise.

Hi josh,
Check to see if you have exported the font for AS using the same name as the font.
Here is how you can embed fonts:
* Click on the "New Font" from the Library Menu
* Choose the font and Copy the same name in the "Name" field. Now In the library the font should appear with the chosen font name not with any other name
* Then right click on the font and Choose "Linkage ..." > Check to see if you have exported the font for AS using the same name as the font.
Regarding the border problem what you are seeing is actually the submenu background. My suggestion is to delete the background movie clip from your library or to adjust it accordingly!

Catalin Serban

I'm having the same issue as Josh... I installed the latest version of the component and followed your font embedding/exporting instructions, but it's still not working for me. I was really surprised when I realized this was not part of the basic function of the component... Please advise. If you could provide a sample file of this function working as it should that would probably be helpful.

I figured out the problem - if you have an existing component in your movie you will need to drag a new one to the stage for the font embedding to work. That solved the problem.

Jimmy -
If you could please clarify the steps I need to take...
I had a component on the stage that I had customized and tweaked. I embedded the font according to the directions. Everything worked except for the font. (The problem with the font was only visible when the swf is posted online and viewed with a different system.)
Now - if I drag another instance of the component onto the stage - all of my customization is gone. Is that what your saying I should do?
Thanks for your help.

Jimmy -
Thanks - I got it...I just applied the Preset...not too shabby.
However -
The correct font STILL doesn't appear. This is ruining the entire layout!
Can I at least get a sans serif?

Hello Josh,
What you did in order to embed the font was ok but I noticed, in the *.fla sent by you, that there was a difference between my installed component and the component found in the library.
In order to resolve this issue please follow these steps:
- Uninstall your component using the Extension Manager
- Go to Your account, from the Extend Studio website, and download the latest version of the Creative FL Vertical Menu
- Install the new component
- Open you *.FLA file and drag from the Components Window the new vertical menu
- You will receive a warning about overwriting a file, please click OK
These steps should solve your problem.
One more thing: please check the Use Embed Fonts? radio button, from text tab!!!

Catalin Serban

Catalin - Thanks for the help. I installed the new component and was pleased to see that you had added the check box for "Use Embedded Font".

I tried absolutely everything in this thread, and I don't see my font on the web.
I used an OTF open type font, selected EMBED FONT, I ADDED FONT with LIBRARY MENU, I checked linkage had same name, I have latest version from late January 08, and I still don't see it.
I'm thinking I may have to have my top menu button text be the same color as my background so they're invisible (because any absence of text puts the word "text" in place or if no leading comma, it puts in the link path), then create small text button graphics with the font I want, import them as images and overlay them on top of the menu. If the menu doens't work on the top level as a result of those overlaid graphics, then I'm going to have to turn each of my graphics into a Flash button, add the linkage there, and then let your component do the submenus. But this is insane to have to do this to get a font to appear. What's the problem still?
