I am trying to assign a loadMovie function to certain buttons in my menu. I have searched and studied the tutorial and documentation that others have been directed to. Is there any way you could be more specific? The menu looks perfect. I just can't seem to make it work.
I'm at your mercy!

I got your samples and tutorial. Unfortunately, the xml of the menu was not included. I think I might be missing something in the menu structure.
Here's what I have:
menu structure:
THE BOKX 109 STORY,as:_root.myStory
BOKX PERFORMERS,as:_root.myPerform1

AS2 script (preloader is on frame 1, menu on frame 2 in main timeline, actionscript is on its own layer on frame 2 in main timeline):

function openStory() {
container.loadMovie("about1.swf");
}

function openPerform1() {
container.loadMovie("evansScroller.swf");
}
stop();

I was able to use gotoAndPlay and load external movies on labeled frames but that screwed up the functionality of buttons. After clicking on each button one time I have to click on a button several times, it reloads the entire movie, THEN I can click and gotoAndPlay again.

What am I missing here?

OOPS!
I found a slight error in my menu structure, it should be:
menu structure:
THE BOKX 109 STORY,as:_root.myStory
BOKX PERFORMERS
>NAME NAME,as:_root.myPerform1

I have a mix of main buttons and submenu buttons in a single structure.
I corrected the code my previous post. Still no luck.

I figured something else out.
I keep trying to open the menu component from the 'example file" that you sent (so I can check the menu structure against my setup) and I'm getting this error:
Error opening URL "file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/kbrown/Local%20Settings/Application%20Data/Macromedia/Flash%208/en/Configuration/Extend/Menus/dropdown_menu_interface.xml"

I own FL VERTICAL menu so now I can't even open the component. I feel like a broken record here but can someone please, please help me resolve this issue? I've spent over 12 hours struggling with something that was supposed to be such a time saver.

I have purchased the menu pack, and reading the posts up above, I need these same tutorials. Can you please send them to me.

One other question would be should I have been able to find these tutorials on my own?
