I have tried different ways to update the menus across pages but none seem to work. I setup a DW site, built a page, inserted a menu - first tried it as a template with the menu in a locked region - then with the menu in an editable region - neither updated pages based on the template. Then I built a page and saved as many different pages - then edited menu clicking the update all pages button - it did not update all the pages. Windows XP Pro, DW CS3.

Perhaps a step by step guide on this would help. If I currently have a menu change it will not be fun to update 80 plus pages. Please help.

I read the previous post regarding this and my problem apparently was that I had a php site and was using a testing server so I could not insert the menu, or I would get "problem with menu" error. I tested a plain html site and had no problem - pages updated as expected. So, I have two questions:

Can I just put the menu in a template and use the template for all my pages?
Does it work with testing server types in DW?
Thanks.

Hello,

Yes, the menu can be placed both in a template and a dynamic page. Could you, please send us the template you were having problems with at support@extendstudio.com?

Will not insert a menu

I'm using version 1.5.0 in DW CS3 - Windows 2000 prof.

I added menu to a page but when I go to insert it into another page it says, "no menu to insert" and there is no choice of my Menu1.

I got frustrated and tried manually adding the menu to a few pages - if I make a change to one menu and check off the "update all pages" it doesn't update the other pages.

I thought of using the menu as a library item; but I'd rather use the functionality it's suppose to have - the site is going to be rather large.

Any clues to the problem?

I'll include the link to the site in progress. Let me know what else you will need to diagnose.

Hello Robyn,

There are different methods to copy an existing menu and they need to be used according the situation.

First method you may think of is to copy/paste the html code from one page to another. We dont recommend this method because the function Update in all pages? will fail and so you wont be able to manage effectively your menu across the website (when you use the Insert Existing Menu?, Edit Menu? or Add Menu? buttons the menu will keep track of the pages that it is placed in). However, if you use this method be careful to do one more step click on the EDIT MENU + OK. If you copy the menu from Dreamweaver Website please be careful to copy the includes? folder also. This folder is created automatically by the extension in the root of your website ad contains scripts, skins etc.

Another method that you may use is Insert Existing Menu?. This method works only if in the current DW Website you have created a menu in one page and you want to insert it in all html pages without changing the parameters. Insert Existing Menu knows only the menus from the current website, otherwise you will receive an error. (Recommended method for copying a menu from the same DW Site).

If you want to copy a menu from another website you have to first save it as a preset and then go to the new page. Here click on the ADD Menu?, go to the Presets Tab and Load the Preset with or without the menu structure, and thats it.. (Recommended method for copying a menu from another DW Site).

I hope that this clears your problems, if not, feel free to contact us at any time.

Kind regards,
