With Creative Flash Scroller you can scroll any kind of Flash Content: static text, dynamic text, pictures, animations, movies. It comes with multiple scroll behaviors: touch scroll, mouse gesture scroll, scrollbar scroll and even supports mouse wheel behavior. You can add smooth scrolling or motion blur effects and customize it to suit your design, from an easy to use interface.

In this tutorial I will show you how to simulate a very nice zoom functionality for Creative Flash Scroller. You will be able to zoom the movie clip the scroller is applied on or the scrolling area. I want to start by reminding you that, in order for the tutorial to work, you need to do something first. Install the Creative Flash Scroller component using Adobe Extension Manager (if you encounter any problems doing that, please refer to the „How to install an extension” tutorial).

 This tutorial was created for AS3 ( Flash Action Script 3 )  as3

1. Let's start by opening Flash and creating a new file. (For CS3 users: in order to set-up the frame rate and name your file, right-click the stage and select "Document properties")

Create file

2. Download the attached „.fla” file and copy the button and the movie clips from the library of this file into your library. („Button 1”, „Button 2”, „image”, „imageLoad”)

Copy required library items

3. Drag an instance of „Button 1” on the stage, name it „button1” and place it at the following coordinates:

4. Repeat the procedure with „Button 2”, and name its instance „button2” with the coordinates:

Second button properties

5. Now drag the movie clip „image” on the stage at the coordinates from the image below; name the instance „balloon”.

6. It's time to place the final item – the Scroller – on the stage. Open the Components panel (Ctrl+F7) and drag an instance of Classic Scroller on the stage, name it „scroller” and place it at the following coordinates:

7. Open Component Inspector (Shift+F7) and check if the Target field has „balloon”inside; leave everything else on default position.

8. Let's work now on the layer structure; rename the layer where you were working until now „content” and create a new layer – name it „actions”.

Layer structure

Layer structure

9. Select the first frame of the „actions” layer and then open the Actions panel (F9); insert the following code:

var temp1 : Boolean = false;
var temp2 : Boolean = false;
var n : Number;

			button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, click1);
			button2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, click2);

			function click1(e:MouseEvent) {
				n = (temp1) ? 1 : 2;
				balloon.scaleX = n;
				balloon.scaleY = n;
				temp1 = !temp1;
				scroller.cDimCheck();
			}

			function click2(e:MouseEvent) {
				n = (temp2) ? 300 : 225;
				scroller.width = n;
				scroller.height = n;
				temp2 = !temp2;
				scroller.cDimCheck();
			}

I structured the code this way: the first function is for the image zoom and the second function is for the scrolling area zoom. The buttons work this way – if you want to zoom in click once and again for zooming out; only one level of zoom is created.

10. Preview your file.
