Configuring Chart Data > Manual Data Input

In order to enter data manually, first activate the ‘Manual Input’ option. By default the 'Data Configuration' screen contains some sample data. Since we will be entering our own data, we should delete the data by using the 'Reset' button. The 'Reset' button is located on the right side of the data entry grid.

Data Entry Table

First of all we need to create a table for entering data. To begin, we create a column by clicking the 'Add Column' button. A column indexed as 'A' will be created. Every successive column will acquire an alphabetical index in ascending order. Each column represents a data-series or a category.

Once you have created all the columns, you would now have to create the rows. Each row holds a category and it's corresponding values. You can add rows by using the 'Add Row' button.

Now that you have created the rows and columns, you can begin by enetring data into the table. To enter data into a cell, click on it and a text-cursor will appear. Type in the value that you wish to assign to that cell. Apart from using the mouse, you can use the 'tab' key to shift to the next cell of that row. Do not provide the series name for your data-series within the cells. This is because all values contained in the table will actually be plotted on the chart and the series name will be treated as just another data plot.

In order to delete one or more columns of the table, first select the columns by clicking on the column index. Then click the ‘Remove Column(s)’ button to delete the selected columns. You can similarly delete rows by using the ‘Remove Row(s)’ button.

Pasting Data from Tables

FusionCharts for Dreamweaver allows you to use Data from a pre-existing table, saving you the trouble of indulging in the tedious process of entering data manually. You can copy an entire table into the data grid without even having to create columns and rows - they would be created automatically.

In order to paste data into the data grid click on the 'Paste from Clipboard' button. You will be prompted with a dialogue box, asking you whether the data to be pasted contains the header row. Click 'Yes' if your data set includes the name of the data-series. Otherwise click 'No'. It is advantageous to simulate the first situation

Defining Categories and Series for your Chart

A chart cannot be plotted unless the data has been classified into Categories and Series. To designate a column as a Categories column, just select the column and then click the 'Add as Categories' button. Now, select each of the remaining columns - one at a time, and designate each of them as a Series column by clicking on the 'Add as Series' button. Do keep in mind that a chart can have only one Categories column. Once you have classified the data into categories and series you will find your categories and series columns listed under the ‘Categories and Series’ section.

Managing Categories and Series

In the Categories and Series section, you can provide a custom name and color for each series. To change the color of the series you can use the visual color picker or provide a hex color code – but without the # prefix. In order to change the order of the series just select any one of the series and use the ‘up’ or ‘down’ button to change the order of the series.
