In this tutorial I'm going to show you something very useful, how to work with the Creative TextFX using the Copy+Paste method or Duplicate or CTRL+drag. Firstly I would like to remind you that the first requirement for this tutorial is to have the Creative TextFX extension installed; the tutorial “How to install an extension” can guide you through the process.
Click here to download the source file and the required files for solving this tutorial.
1. Let's start by opening Flash and creating a new file.

Create file
2. Open the Components and Component Inspector panels and drag a new instance of Creative TextFX on the stage; leave it with default parameters (the font will be Verdana).

Current view of the stage
3. Let's change the text inside as Verdana – the same as the font we are using.

Change the text
4. Now we get to the object of our tutorial. Make a copy of the Creative TextFX and then paste it on the stage. You can do that using several methods (Copy+Paste, CTRL+Drag or Duplicate after right click on the effect). After you do that, from the Component Inspector, change the font type to Arial and make the text inside show „Arial” as well – so that we'll know the difference between the two.

Repeat steps using Arial
5. If we preview the movie now (CTRL+Enter), we'll notice an interesting thing. Only the second instance of the Creative TextFX is shown on the screen while the first not. This happens because the automatic embedding system from Flash fails when it comes to this. We have to embed the font manually; the one with which we have a problem is the „Verdana” one, so we'll embed Verdana in our movie. From the Library panel (if it's not already opened you can open it from the Window menu) select click right and select New Font.

Open the Library panel

Insert Font symbol
6. Pick Verdana from the list and name it the same.

Modify the Font symbol properties
7. Now we have the font in our Library, we just need to export it for ActionScript. Right click on the font in the Library and click Linkage.

Access symbol Linkage
8. In the next window, check the Export for ActionScript check-box. It should look like this now:

Export for ActionScript
9. If you will preview the movie now (CTRL+Enter) you will see that both text effects exist on the stage.

Preview your file
