How to create a simple text animation

In this tutorial we're going to create our first animation using Creative TextFX. I guarantee that this tutorial, as well as all the rest from Creative TextFX, will be at least as fun as those from Creative MovieFX; if you didn't check them out yet, make sure to visit the tutorials for Creative MovieFX as well. Before we begin I want to remind you that, in order to use these tutorials, you have to have the Creative TextFX extension installed; if you encounter any problems with this, please refer to the “How to install an extension” tutorial.

1. Let's start by opening Flash and creating a new file.

2. From the Components panel (you can open it from the Window menu; open as well the Component Inspector, because we're going to need it later) drag an instance of Creative TextFX on the stage.

3. Convert the Creative TextFX instance into a movie clip and name it, let's say, myText.

Convert to symbol

4. Select the clip on the stage by clicking on it once; double click on it to get in the symbol editing mode, and with the effect selected, open the Component Inspector while the effect is selected.

5. Apply the next configuration in the Component Inspector window (I just changed the text and left all the other parameters the same; you can press the Update button if you want to see how your changes look like).

Configure the effect

6. The final step is to make sure that the coordinates of the movie clip are integer numbers. You can do that from the Properties panel situated usually in the bottom of the screen.

7. Preview your movie; it should have a typewriter effect. I agree that it's not the most spectacular effect we have ever seen, but we start slow. In the next tutorials we're going to do nicer and more complex things.
