In this tutorial I will show you how to create a custom effect. I'll choose an effect which suits my preference, but the options are so vast – you can experiment and choose another if you prefer.

1. I want to start by reminding you that you need the Creative TextFX extension installed for this tutorial to work; if you encounter any problems installing it, please read the “How to install an extension” tutorial.
2. Open your Flash and create a new file.

Create file
3. Open the Components panel and drag an instance of Creative TextFX on the stage and convert it to a movie clip (let's name it „myEffect”). (Probably the next screen-shot will look a bit different than you expected... I already configured the effect, you will see how in the following steps.)

Current view of the stage
4. Let's configure the effect now. Open the Component Inspector and set it up like in the following pictures (don't forget you have to enter symbol-editing mode to change the properties as we have encapsulated the effect in a movie clip).

Configure the General tab

Configure the Effects details

Configure the Colors tab
5. Let's align the clip on the center of the stage vertically and horizontally. Check as well if it has integer coordinates.
6. We are ready to preview what we did. Press CTRL+ENTER.
