How to personalize an effect

In this tutorial we're going to do more than just create an effect; we're going to change it's properties until we find the choice we like best. Since „de gustibus non discutare” (it's a matter of taste), I'm going to pick the values that create my favorite effect and I advise you to do the same.

1. This tutorial assumes that you have installed the extension in Flash; if not, visit our tutorial „How to install an extension”.

2. Open a new Flash document and set the frame rate for it to 35.

3. I'll use a symbol I created specially for this, it's called „box”. Drag an instance of the symbol you're going to use (the "box" symbol is in the lybrary of the attched ".fla" file) on the stage and apply a Creative MovieFX on it (you can find this in the Components panel, the Extend Components category).

4. Open the Component Inspector after selecting the instance of the Extend MovieFX you just placed on the screen.

5. Let's use the effect called „Stripe Translation” just that this time we're not going to let it with default parameters. You can change the attributes of the effect from the General and the Effect Details panels in the Component Inspector. In the next screen-shots you can see the parameters I chose but please, feel free to find a better-looking solution than mine by modifying them.

6. If you use the values I chose, you should get something that looks like the next image.
