How to create a website

In this tutorial I will show you how to begin your actual work in Dreamweaver in order to start using our products; that is, I'm going to explain how to create a website.

1. Open Dreamweaver. Unless you already have the „Files” window open, click F8 or follow „Window>Files”. Now select the „Manage sites” option.

Open the Manage Sites window

2. As the window opens, you can see a list of your previously created sites. Select „New...>Site” in order to start configuring your new site.

3. The configuration window is now open. As you know already, in order to test locally you need an Apache/MySQL server; as well, you need to know the folder this server is using as root. Keeping that in mind, let's proceed; insert the desired „Site name”, „Local root folder” and „HTTP address” in the corresponding text fields from the „Local Info” section.

4. Let's advance to the next important section - „Testing server”. Select as „Server Model” - PHP MySQL and as „Access” - Local/Network; now you have to fill in the paths for the „Testing server folder” and for the „URL prefix”. One thing you should keep in mind is that the paths should match two by two like this: „Local root folder” with „Testing server folder” and „HTTP Address” with „URL prefix”.

5. We have finished configuring the necessary configuration options. Click „OK” and you will see the website in the „Files” window; right-click inside, select „New file” and then you are ready to start using our extensions.
