Fifa World Cup Chart

Creating a FIFA World Cup Statistics Chart

Since the FIFA World Cup 2010 is in progress I was thinking that it would be interesting to create a statistics chart with all FIFA editions dating back to 1930, to see how things have evolved. Included for each year: how many teams have participated, how many matches were played each year, how many goals were scored each year, average goal per year and attendances per year.

Extend Studio’s CEO – panelist at Young Entrepreneurs School workshop

Horea Radu, Extend Studio’s CEO was a panelist at the Young Entrepreneurs School workshop organized by GECAD ePayment (the biggest eCommerce provider in Romania).

Horea shared his thoughts on “From the first line of code to the first sale” topic with the students that attended the event. Besides the personal victory of being able to drag Horea out of the office, I don’t think you can have a bigger feeling of achievement than telling the story of your 5 years old company to young minds eager to follow your example.

The topic was open (lucky me, I didn’t have to prepare a PPT) and this allowed the students to ask and talk about almost anything related to starting and running a software company: how to find investors, how to market the products, how to describe the features; having a partner and employing the first person and everything in between. There is something I found out while watching the eager to know students and Horea’s passion when talking about starting up Extend: sometimes it takes to tell your story to an outside audience to realize your achievements.

Who would have thought that the little Extend Studio freshly born about 5 years ago will become a motivational story for students willing to start a business of their own?

And now, some pictures (provided courtesy of GECAD ePayment):

Using A Dreamweaver Generated Slideshow In Wordpress

One of our customers asked: can I use your Image Show Pro Dreamweaver extension to create a header slideshow in Wordpress? Good thing that I’m a big Wordpress fan and I could quickly drop a slideshow on one of my blogs and see what’s needed to make it work. If you want to have cool flash slideshows with your Wordpress blog or website and you do not have the skills to implement jquery animations or simple you are not a big fan with the coding part, this tutorial will show you how to generate a slideshow in Dreamweaver with Image Show Pro Dreamweaver extension and make it work in a typical Wordpress installation.

It’s easier than you think if you don’t use URL rewrite permalinks.

  • copy the slideshow “/includes” files from the Dreamweaver location to the Wordpress folder (Image Show Pro creates a folder called “includes” in the Dreamweaver site);
  • you will need to manually edit the header.php file (location /wp-content/themes/[your template name]/header.php) and add the 3 JavaScript include files to the head section (please copy the ones from Dreamweaver, below are just samples).

<script type=”text/javascript” src=”/includes/ImageShowPro/flash_detect_min.js”></script>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”/includes/ImageShowPro/xtdProBanner1.js”></script>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”/includes/ImageShowPro/xtdProBannerLayout.js”></script>

  • edit the file where you want the slideshow to appear and add the rendering script (for example if you want to replace the typical Wordpress theme with the slideshow, edit the header.php file and add the rendering script there (again, below it’s just a sample): (more…)
